The EJ Girl Scouts work & participate in lots of events in the community including the Pumpkin Festival, Santa Parade, Care & Share Food collections, Care & Share Holiday Baskets set up, decorating the Senior Center and serving water at the Miss East Jordan Pageant. This donation will help with troop expenses and give them the opportunity to do more activities with the Girl Scouts.

October 2015 Recipient: Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders



Julie Wieman (center), Owner at MacGregor Plumbing & Heating in Harbor Springs presents a $516.00 check to the Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month! During the month of October MacGregor collected $258 from the community. MacGregor Cares then matched that amount totaling $516 donated! The Cancer Crusaders are a local group that helps those fighting cancer with immediate needs, such as medicine, gas cards, etc. All donations stay locally and the group is run by volunteers!

August 2015 Winner: BSA Venturing Crew 252

Venturing is a co-ed division of Boy Scouts of America. Our Crew includes 14 girls, ages 14-20, who are working to develop leadership skills with a focus on proficiency in outdoor education. We have formed valuable partnerships with several other community service organizations; and work alone, and in partnership, with these organizations to complete an average of 30 service hours a year per member. Venturing prepares our leaders of tomorrow.

July 2015 Winner: Indian River Women's Club

This club does several annual projects, such as planting flower barrels in town and hanging wreaths and garland at Christmas time, contribute to local organizations such as our town's Easter Egg Hunt and snowmobile grooming club. The Women's Club also works very hard every year to raise money so that they can fund special projects in our community such as paying for part of the new pavilion located in Marina Park.

June 2015 Winner: Bear River Crawl

The Bear River Crawl is a local race where all proceeds are donated to the Northern Michigan Cancer Crusaders, in which 80% of all monies stays locally to help families dealing with cancer.

December 2014 Winner: Dress For Chill Project

Dress for Chill Project, part of Eta Nu Charities provides new winter outerwear for 70 to 100 children in the Boyne City area. They provide new coats, snow pants, boot, hats, and mittens to children in November each year.

Community, businesses and individuals can support this cause by donating funds to be used to purchase the new clothing. Checks should be made out to Eta Nu Charities and mailed to P.O. Box 133, Boyne City, MI 49712.

Programs include a monthly foster/adopt support group, monthly date night (adopted or foster parents can drop their children off to be fed and entertained while parents have a night out), foster closet, and WRAP program (family that is adopting/fostering is assigned to a family coordinator that helps coordinate care ranging from meals, cleaning the house, babysitting, etc).
